About Ecofit
Ecofit is a program developed and conducted by the University of Newcastle, designed to encourage adults in the community to do more muscle strengthening and aerobic exercises. It uses smartphone technology and local outdoor gyms/spaces to help people get active. This program has been successfully tested in three different studies in the Newcastle area.
There are numerous health benefits to participating in regular physical activity. Regular physical activity can improve mood and sleep, reduce the risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure, help with weight management and improves general fitness and wellbeing.
In each Ecofit study, people participating in the program have made improvements to their health and fitness. Currently, we are testing to see if people enjoy using the new ecofit app and whether it helps people in becoming more physical active. We are especially interested if ecofit encourages more people to use outdoor fitness equipment found in local parks.
